Holiday Happenings: Lights, Festivals, and Trains

The Onset Bay Association will host the annual Christmas in the Village this weekend. This will take place on Saturday December 10th with a rain day of December 11th. Hoping for good weather as I am planning ot attend for the first time! There will be kids crafts, ice sculptures, Victorian carolers, cookie decorating, remembrance tree displays on the pier and more!

Over the bridge check out the Falmouth Art Center’s Holiday Market & Gift Gallery. Shop handmade gifts from over 100 local artists including everything from original paintings, prints, and photos to handmade clothing, pottery and jewelry. Holiday cards, ornaments, wreaths and other festive creations make the perfect addition to any seasonal decor. Through December 24th.

Let there be light! Some of the best holiday lights displays are less than an hour away, including the top 3.

  1. Edaville in Carver’s Festival of Lights is top ranked according to Only in Your State and is a only 19 minutes away. It is a must see, especially if you have children or are a child at heart during the season. This magical railroad holiday extravaganza. You can climb aboard on of the beautiful trains in Edaville and take in the glow of thousands of holiday lights. There are also plenty of tasty treats, amusement park rides and meetings with Santa. You can even go shopping at a European-style Christmas market.

  2. Taunton’s Lighting of the Green has been a holiday tradition for over 100 years. Taunton has been nicknamed “the Christmas City” and is a short 35 minutes from Onset.

  3. La Salette Festival of Lights is an essential stop for Christmas lights enthusiasts. Over 300,000 lights decorate this 10-acre winter wonderland in Attleboro (a 45 minute drive away). Hosted by the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, this faith-based Christmas celebration is one of the most popular Christmas light displays in Massachusetts. Illuminations at the La Salette Festival of Lights are held in the evenings from late November to just after the New Year.

Edaville Festival of Lights in Carver Ma.

The Polar Express Train Ride set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, passengers will relive the magic of the classic story as they are whisked away on THE POLAR EXPRESS™ for a 1 to 1 ½ hour trip to meet Santa! Onboard, the conductor will punch golden tickets for each child. Dancing chefs and waiters will perform while Christmas carols play, and you’ll enjoy listening to a reading of the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg.
